Classic FM presenter, Simon Bates will speak at the Exeter Business Dinner, sponsored by Kitson Hutchings Solicitors, and Exeter Chamber of Commerce are donating £1,000 to his chosen charity - ‘Have a Heart'.

The prestigious black-tie event, the highlight of Exeter's business year, will be held at Sandy Park Conference Centre on Friday 9 October.  

Simon Bates started his broadcasting career in America in the sixties, working in New Zealand and Australia.  He returned to the UK in the mid-seventies and joined BBC Radio Four, and later moved to Radio One in the late seventies to present the morning show for seventeen years.   

Simon was voted Radio Personality of the Year in 1993 and has won several Sony Awards for programming, including his "Round The World" series and his specials on "Eric Clapton". He has also won awards for his work in Australia, New York, New Zealand and Brazil and this year received a "Life Achievement Award" (Hall of Fame) from the Radio Academy. He currently presents ‘The Breakfast Show' for Classic FM and presents a Sunday radio show for GOLD Network.

Derek Phillips, Chairman of Exeter Chamber said, ‘We very much look forward to having Simon Bates at the Exeter Business Dinner and are extremely pleased to donate £1,000 on his behalf to the worthwhile charity, ‘Have a Heart', which will help provide grants to disadvantaged and vulnerable young people in our communities.'

The Exeter Business Dinner will begin at 7pm with a sparkling wine reception, followed by a sumptuous four-course feast. Guests can choose from a vegetarian or meat dinner with delicious, local produce on the menu including Devon Blue, Poached Pear and Candied Walnut Salad and a platter of West Country Cheeses served with Otter Vale Chutney, Celery, Grapes & Savoury Biscuits.

The Exeter Business Dinner is also sponsored by Barclays Commercial, Gemini Taxis, Kallkwik, Trugs and Signs Express and is open to non-Chamber members. A table of 10 costs £450 for Chamber Members and £500 for non-members. Please contact Lisa Vanstone, Chamber Services Manager to book your place.
