Exeter Business Survey – June 2008

Exeter businesses are some of the most confident in the country for job recruitment this summer according to the latest Exeter Chamber of Commerce quarterly survey

As economic growth in the region continues, the Chamber survey for the 2nd quarter of 2007, reports that confidence in Exeter is at an all time high with 100% of the sample membership reporting medium to high business confidence.

58% of the Exeter Chamber of Commerce members surveyed confirmed that sales were up for the three months to the end of May. Exeter's economic output continues to remain buoyant with 33% of the members surveyed expecting their numbers employed to increase over the next quarter.

The Royal Bank of Scotland's monthly PMI Business survey also confirmed that the South West private sector economy is rising at the strongest rate recorded in over 10 years and is the fastest growing region in the UK.

Exeter's ability to create new jobs is growing significantly, boosted by the opportunities offered from the much anticipated Princesshay development. Debenhams, the anchor store of Princesshay recently launched a recruitment drive to find more than 150 new employees to join its 170 strong staff when the department store moves into its brand new, larger premises in Princesshay this September.
