Exeter Business Survey Results – March 2011

The latest Business Survey from Exeter Chamber of Commerce & Industry shows more members are reporting an increase in sales over the last quarter, rising 20% to 57%.  This is the highest percentage since September 2007.

There has also been an increase in investment in businesses, with 71% reporting that they have continued or newly invested in their business in the last quarter.  A further 80% are intending to invest within the next three months.  However, members have recorded that confidence is at its lowest since December 2008 with just 12% describing themselves as highly confident of the business prospects.

Derek Phillips, Vice President of Exeter Chamber said ‘This survey shows a surprise increase in sales over the last quarter although margins are still under considerable pressure.  Confidence was down as expected however it was pleasing to note the 80% of members intending to invest over the next 3 months.'

Over 100 Exeter Businesses were surveyed from a wide range of industries and business sizes in order to compile this report on business conditions in Exeter. The results are shared with the Bank of England and help to create a picture of the economic environment across the UK.
