Exeter Chamber of Commerce highlights 45 million local sourcing opportunity

Paul McCormick, Exeter City Council Head of Contracts & Direct Services, will be speaking at the Exeter Chamber of Commerce Business Lunch on March 12th at the Southgate Hotel, explaining how local businesses can tender for a share of £45 million worth of services and products.

Derek Phillips, Chairman Exeter Chamber of Commerce said, ‘Local sourcing is a great opportunity for Exeter businesses, but some companies are still unaware of the contracts available. The City Council presentation at the Chamber lunch will help to encourage more local companies to make a successful bid and increase sales.'

Exeter City Council has identified key areas of procurement opportunity for smaller local businesses in addition to its larger tender contracts. Sourcing from local companies creates a significant economic benefit to the city, with every pound spent locally creating a four-fold increase, helping to stimulate new jobs and investment.

Mr McCormick will explain Exeter City Council's commitment to long-term sustainability in its procurement process through the Green Accord policy launched last year, which rewards environmental commitment and enables local companies to gain a business advantage as well as improve their carbon footprint.

Mr McCormick said, 'We are keen to encourage more businesses and Chamber members in particular to come forward and bid for work. There are a wide range of supply opportunities from construction projects to stationary products, all of which can be found on our website including details of the companies who have won contracts and may also be seeking local suppliers.'
