Exeter Summer Festival
Exeter Chamber is proud to support Exeter Summer Festival
Exeter Summer Festival returns from Friday 12 - Sunday 28 June, boasting over 60 hours of free entertainment alongside interactive activities to boost community spirit.
Supported by generous funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England, the Festival kicks off with a grand Opening Parade at midday on 12th June combining with the traditional Lammas Fair. Regional and local artists will help schools and local communities create circus themed sculptures, banners, masks and music, which will form a visual spectacle in the city centre streets. The circus theme continues in the evening at the Party on the Quay - fun for all the family with have-a-go circus workshops, crafts, street theatre, music stage and digital funfair, all for free. The evening will culminate in a spectacular performance and firework finale created by Parade Director, Charlie Morrissey and firework company, The World Famous.
Cllr Stella Brook, Lead Councillor for Economy and Tourism said, ‘Family shows and family participation are key priorities for the Festival from start to finish. 2009 sees the return of the popular Party on the Quay on opening night - a great, free family event, and there are more shows than ever for children of all ages. '
On 27th June, Cathedral Green is the setting for a day of celebration marking the 1100th anniversary of the Diocese of Exeter, and The Archbishop of Canterbury joins in the Songs of Praise outside Exeter Cathedral. During the day people can relax on the Green and enjoy free entertainment including acrobats, clowns and music, ending with an evening concert by AJ's Big Band, the South West's premier 17-piece band playing music from the swing era, celebrating their 25th Anniversary and Veterans Day.
Watch out for other free events including Tangled Feet Ensemble: Home in Exeter City Centre, a unique theatre event; the popular two day Exeter Craft Festival; the Wildlife Festival on Cathedral Green with games and activities and the Summer Concert with the Devon County Junior Choir in Exeter Cathedral.
Exeter Summer Festival's exciting line up of over 40 events will take place in a range of venues across the city, packed with events to suit every taste. Internationally renowned musicians perform classical, world, jazz and folk music alongside comedy, theatre and exhibitions, plus special events for children and families too.
With guaranteed entertainment for all ages and an extravaganza of diverse events, there really is something for everyone at Exeter Summer Festival!
