GOOD NEWS CAMPAIGN – Chamber members report year on year sales increase

Despite the current economic downturn, Exeter Chamber of Commerce members have reported a year-on-year sales increase for 2009.

Gemini Taxis have seen eighteen consecutive months of year-on-year growth with a 13% increase for January 2009 against 2008. In order to counteract the quiet times introduced by the credit crunch, the Company has developed new business resulting in a further 2,600 bookings for 2009.

Over the last year Gemini Taxis have gained a further 46 new accounts, ranging from the Met Office to McDonalds; the INTO at Exeter University account brings Chinese, Russian and middle-eastern students to the city from Heathrow and Gatwick airports and the Stryker UK account bringing global orthopaedic surgeons to the RD&E.

Steve Screech said, ‘We have developed several niche markets, including an executive fleet for short and long distances at very competitive rates. We have three E-Class Mercedes, an Audi A6 and two VW Transporters (Club Class). We are the only Exeter-based taxi company to offer this service and expect it to expand in the year ahead.'

Gemini have purchased four Eco-cars forging a closer working relationship with the Met Office, Exeter University and several other large organisations, and four disability-access vehicles with the aim to offer the service to all care and rest homes in and around the city.

The company has also found the time to raise money for local causes including the Express & Echo's "We Care" campaign and Dreamaway.

Rob Hitchings from Nomadic Travel in Gandy Street, Exeter, has reported that company sales for January 2009 were 20% up on January 2008. Rob said We specialize in tailor-made holidays to long-haul destinations such as Antarctica, the Galapagos Islands, Africa, India and the Far East and it would appear from the sales that the more adventurous travellers are determined to journey abroad despite the present downturn in the wider economy. We have been buoyed by the number of clients who have told us that they are just going to ‘get on with life as normal' as far as they can and are looking forward to their annual break even more this year as a means of escaping all the gloomy news.'
