 EXETER FLORAL DESIGNER GOES HEAD TO HEAD @ RHS CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW & SCOOPES PRESTIGIOUS SILVER AWARD!It was a double celebration for Trugs Floral Designers of South Street with not one, but two of their designers, Catherine Date and Sophie Astridge through to the finals of ‘The RHS Chelsea Florist of the Year’ competition the  first of its kind launched by The Royal Horticultural Society to introduce new talent.  RHS Chelsea Hub Heats were held in various locations around the UK with entries by invitation only.  Catherine and Sophie beat off stiff competition to come first and second respectively in the senior category in Bristol earlier this year to represent Wales and South West.  Ed Moorman Director/Owner of Trugs was delighted to be represented by two of his top designers for the chance to win the coveted ‘RHS Chelsea Florist of the Year’ at the World’s most famous flower show in Chelsea, where contestants had to create flamboyant and unique headwear.  Catherine Date was presented with the coveted silver award as a result of her use of unusual materials in a highly creative design.  Catherine no stranger to awards having come 4th overall in the BFA Europa Cup Eliminator 2005 – 2006 and placed 2nd in the Free Expression Piece category; had the challenging task of designing the flamboyant floral hats utilising fresh flowers, modern floral techniques, unusual materials and different colour oasis products.  This included stringent head size dimensions at the Trugs design team worked closely with a local milliner commissioning highly unusual and unique wired frames as a foundation to the floral display.  Local plant wholesalers and suppliers had also offered their strong support to the team.  Catherine’s stunning design included mango Calla lilies, purple Anthuriums and Phalaenopsis orchids in striking magenta.  Sophie chose bold blue clematis, orange Calla lily and exotic Anthuriums.   www.trugs.co.uk
