Exeter Library will host an exceptional line-up of speakers and run creative workshops this month, designed to help people kick-start their business ideas and set them on the path to start-up success.
Sponsored by Exeter City Council and run by Libraries Unlimited, the free Start-up Day is designed to motivate budding entrepreneurs, helping them turn their business ideas into a reality, whilst providing the opportunity for like-minded people to mingle and network.
The event at Exeter Library on Thursday 21st September, is part of a national initiative run by the British Library Business and Intellectual Property (IP) Centre, and will be the first one to take place in the city.
The day will commence at 9.15am for a networking session within the Business and IP Centre in the library, and kicks off with talks from local HR firm Endorse HR, and an introduction to Mintel Market Research.
Top speakers throughout the day will include James Court from Natwest Bank, Neil Butler from Companies House, Tom Moore from Stephens Scown, Nick Cooper from Salt Media, Jonathan Alder from McQueenie Mullholland. Sessions will navigate essential topics from social media and public relations strategies, to book keeping, design and marketing. Also on offer will be creative workshops on 2D and 3D design with Exeter Library’s FabLab Devon.
Anyone interested in attending should register online for the event, which includes lunch and refreshments. The day will finish with a drinks and canapés reception at 5.15pm.
Ciara Eastell, Chief Executive of Libraries Unlimited, the charity responsible for running Devon Libraries, said: “Start-up Day is intended to give entrepreneurs and businesspeople ideas about how to turn their business dreams into reality and set them on the road to start-up success. We have a whole range of resources within our libraries, providing access to business resources and intelligence and offering workshops or one-to-one advice. Start-up Day offers the perfect opportunity for us to raise awareness of things we have on offer and reach our network of ambitious entrepreneurs from across the county.
“We have a fantastic selection of local and national speakers from highly successful companies who will be imparting their wisdom, and we are truly grateful for their involvement.
“We are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to would-be businesspeople completely free and hope it will be both inspirational and motivational, while also providing like-minded people the opportunity to socialise and make new connections.”
Cllr Rachel Sutton, Lead Councillor for Economy at Exeter City Council said: “This is a hugely impressive line-up of speakers and workshops, thanks to Libraries Unlimited. The day has been designed to help support those that are early on in their business journey, and the topics span a range of essential topics for anyone considering setting up their own business.
“Our city is brimming with innovators, entrepreneurs and creatives, and this day is full of information, advice, support and creative ideas for everyone. We are very proud to be a part of it and look forward to bringing our business community together in our fantastic city library.”
There are currently 11 Business and IP Centres across the UK which follow a programme and ethos developed by the Centre at the British Library in London.
The Centres provide support to business owners, entrepreneurs and inventors and are a free resource combining access to free market intelligence, industry reports and face-to-face advice from experts on starting and protecting a business idea.
