Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, has announced that since it started supporting its chosen charity partner Cancer Research UK in 2008, passengers and staff have together raised £750,000 through onboard collections and general fundraising activity.

Cancer Research UK is the airline’s sole designated charity partner and, over the past nine years, regular onboard collections and staff fundraising activities ranging from marathons to bake-offs have raised three quarters of a million pounds.

Cancer Research UK’s pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has helped save millions of lives.  Today, two in four people survive their cancer for at least 10 years. Cancer Research UK’s ambition is to accelerate progress so that by 2034, this increases to three in four people.

Christine Ourmieres-Widener, Flybe’s Chief Executive Officer, comments: “This fantastic £750,000 milestone has only been made possible by the generosity of Flybe staff and passengers, led by the enthusiasm of our own special charity champions.  I am incredibly proud of our work with Cancer Research UK and look forward to many more milestones to come!”

Ed Aspel, Cancer Research UK’s executive director of fundraising and marketing, said: “We’re extremely grateful for Flybe’s incredible support and would like to congratulate them on reaching the £750,000 milestone.  The dedication of Flybe’s staff and customers will help fund our life-saving work to beat cancer and we look forward to continuing to develop our partnership together”.
