Exeter Chamber of Commerce is delighted to announce that Charlie Courtenay, Earl of Devon, and AJ Courtenay, Countess of Devon, will be the principle speakers at this year’s Exeter Business Dinner.  The husband and wife team will speak to the business audience about their vision for Powderham – an 800 year old local family business itself – at the Chamber’s 150th Anniversary Dinner this November.

Residing at Powderham Castle with their children, Charlie and AJ bear the ancient Courtenay name, a family with stories that stretch back over a 1,000 years that has been a strong influence on the city’s development since the 1200s.  As the 28th generation of the family to occupy their remarkable home alongside the Exe estuary, Charlie and AJ are shaping the Powderham Estate and its multiple businesses for future generations; already bringing world class events, such as BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, to Exeter for the first time.

The Exeter Business Dinner is a prestigious black-tie event, taking place on Friday 17th November at Sandy Park. One of the highlights of the Exeter business calendar, it will welcome business representatives from across the region.

David Savill, chairman of Exeter Chamber of Commerce said, “The dinner is always a fantastic occasion in the business calendar to highlight the successes of the city over the last year and this year in particular will be extra special. We are thrilled that the Earl and Countess of Devon are able to join us with our 150th year birthday celebrations.”

Charlie Courtenay, Earl of Devon, said, “AJ and I much look forward to the dinner on November 17, and to sharing stories of Powderham and our plans for this remarkable place with such an eminent audience.  The Exeter Chamber has contributed so much to this great city over the past 150 years – there is a lot to celebrate. “

Bishop Fleming are headline sponsors of the anniversary dinner.  James Finnegan, Partner in charge at the Exeter office said “Exeter is a fast-growing, thriving hub for business and we are thrilled to be sponsoring this prestigious event on the Chamber’s 150th year. This celebration is truly deserved after such a successful year for so many businesses, and a great way to begin looking ahead to further success in 2018”.
