Exeter based, Co-cars Ltd, which offers car hire by the hour from just £4ph all booked via a smartphone, was the winner of the 2017 ‘Best Contribution to Resource Efficiency’ award at the Cornwall Sustainability Awards Ceremony in Newquay on 1st December.
Co-cars uses low emission, hybrid and electric cars WHICH are accessed via a smartcard and now operates across Exeter and the South West, including Truro, Falmouth and Penryn in Cornwall. It was founded in Topsham twelve years ago and is also a founding member of ESSENCE, the social enterprise business network run by Exeter’s chamber of commerce.
The category, which was sponsored by the University of Exeter Business School, is for companies and organisations that have developed a product, service or campaign using the waste hierarchy principle of reducing, re-using, recycling and re-investing by applying ‘cradle to cradle’ or ‘circular economy’ processes.
The aim of the Awards is to encourage, reward and gain recognition for some of the excellent work businesses and organisations are doing to improve their sustainability, and that of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly as a whole.
