Home Instead Exeter and East Devon paves the way to reducing hospitalisation from falls at home
Every year, about a third of adults in England over the age of 65, who live at home have at least one fall, and half of them have frequent falls. Falls are an urgent public health concern because of their medical and economic consequences, and with a rising older population, they are costly for health and care systems.
In 2018, we took the initiative to invest and train our CAREGivers in the use of a specialist piece of equipment known as the Raizer chair. The chair assists in safely lifting adults from the floor, reducing the onset of secondary ailments that arise from lying on a hard surface for a prolonged period, and ensuring our clients’ comfort, as quickly as possible. The Raizer chair has prevented many of our clients from being hospitalised or waiting long periods for an ambulance and was recognised by the CQC as a “Best Practice in Innovation”. Such has been the success of the Raizer chair that we have now invested in a second chair.
